Electives

For the 25-26 school year, we are rearranging the Middle School day in order to:

• Provide more time for music instruction

• Provide more flexibility for participating in Electives

• Provide flex time at the end of the day to allow for students to participate in extracurricular activities at their home schools

• Provide time for a once-per-month "Well-being class'

• Provide time for a 6th grade technology / life-skills class

• Provide at least 1 Study Hall per week for every Middle School Student.
  

These changes present a new ‘look’ for the school day, and choices are available. ( more about that later! )

For 7th and 8th Graders:

Advanced Band will be offered during 8th period on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Chorale will be offered during 9th period Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

STEM will be offered on Thursdays during 8th and 9th period

Students can select all 3 but must select 2. STEM students should have Advanced Math placement. ( determined in May)

*Students who select all 3 elective options will have 1 study hall per week.

For 6th Graders:

Please select EITHER Band or Chorale if not in Advanced Math

Students can choose STEM if they are in the Advanced Math section for 6th grade.

• STEM + Band = 4 Study Halls per week

• STEM + Choir = 5 Study Halls per week

ACTION STEP FOR PARENTS 

Discuss with your student what their interests are.  You will be working on selecting Electives that will be reflected in your student’s schedule.  These selections will be settled by late May of 2025 and cannot be changed in the Fall. These selections need to reflect your student’s interest and willingness to commit.  Take the time to think through and consider what you and your student can manage.

Advanced Band and Choir require mandatory attendance at 2 evening performances each year.

Lastly, selections will be considered but may not be able to be granted due to class size and staffing considerations.

Please submit your student’s requests by February 28, 2025.
